A rich, sweet breakfast bun with buttery layers, brown sugar topping, and optional raisins and walnuts, perfect for a comforting morning treat or brunch.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 1/3 cups sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • a few seedless raisins
  • 1 pound English walnuts

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter and sugar together until well combined.
  2. Add milk and eggs to the creamed mixture, mixing thoroughly.
  3. Stir in the flour and baking powder until just combined.
  4. Pour the batter evenly into two large cake pans.
  5. Drop small pieces of butter all over the batter before baking.
  6. Cover the top of each with a thick layer of brown sugar.
  7. Sprinkle seedless raisins and English walnuts on top, or omit raisins if desired.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
