- Cream the butter and sugar together until well combined.
- Add milk and eggs to the creamed mixture, mixing thoroughly.
- Stir in the flour and baking powder until just combined.
- Pour the batter evenly into two large cake pans.
- Drop small pieces of butter all over the batter before baking.
- Cover the top of each with a thick layer of brown sugar.
- Sprinkle seedless raisins and English walnuts on top, or omit raisins if desired.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
