Creamy broccoli and onion casserole with melted cheeses and crunchy bread crumbs, perfect as a comforting side dish for family dinners or special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup broccoli
  • 1 cup small whole onions
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 (3 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
  • 1/3 cup American cheese
  • 1 cup soft bread crumbs

Instructions

  1. Cook broccoli as directed, then drain.
  2. Cook onions in boiling water until tender, then drain.
  3. In the same pan, melt half of the butter.
  4. Blend in flour, salt, and a dash of pepper.
  5. Add milk and cook, stirring constantly, until thickened and bubbly.
  6. Reduce heat and blend in cream cheese until smooth.
  7. Place cooked vegetables in a 1 1/2 quart casserole dish.
  8. Pour sauce mixture over the vegetables and mix lightly.
  9. Add American cheese and the remaining melted butter, then mix well.
  10. Top with bread crumbs and sprinkle evenly.
  11. Bake at 350°F for 40 to 45 minutes until heated through.
