Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and shortening together until smooth.
  2. Add sugar and beat well until mixture is light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Sift together the flour, salt, baking soda, and baking powder.
  5. Alternately add the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.
  6. Stir in vanilla and beat well to combine.
  7. Pour batter into a well-greased tube pan.
  8. Bake at 325°F (160°C) for about 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
