Ingredients

  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter or margarine
  • 4 cups sifted flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 2 cups sour milk

Instructions

  1. Beat eggs until light, then add brown sugar and continue beating until light with a rotary beater or mixer.
  2. Add vanilla and melted butter, and mix thoroughly.
  3. Sift together the dry ingredients: flour, salt, baking soda, and baking powder.
  4. Alternately add the dry ingredients and sour milk to the egg mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.
  5. Fold in chopped nuts with the last addition of flour.
  6. Pour the batter into two lightly greased and floured 9 x 5 inch loaf pans.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
