Ingredients

  • 4 cups shredded cabbage
  • 3.5 cups chopped tomatoes
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon minced onion
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 2 cups cooked rice
  • 1/2 cup soft bread crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons grated cheese

Instructions

  1. Cook the shredded cabbage in a small amount of water until crisp-tender.
  2. In a saucepan, melt 1 tablespoon of butter and combine it with chopped tomatoes, salt, sugar, and minced onion. Cook for 5 minutes.
  3. Arrange the cooked cabbage, tomato mixture, and cooked rice in layers in a casserole dish.
  4. Combine the bread crumbs, grated cheese, and remaining 2 tablespoons of melted butter, then sprinkle over the top of the casserole.
  5. Bake at 375°F for 45 minutes until golden and bubbly.
