Ingredients

  • 1/4 stick butter
  • 1/2 large onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup chopped bell pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cup fine dry bread crumbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup ketchup

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Melt butter in a skillet over medium-low heat.
  3. Add chopped onion, bell pepper, salt, cayenne pepper, dried thyme, pepper, and ground cumin to the skillet.
  4. Cook the vegetables until tender, stirring frequently, about 10 minutes.
  5. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked vegetables with ground beef, beaten egg, dry bread crumbs, Worcestershire sauce, and ketchup.
  6. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
  7. Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it in a greased baking dish.
  8. Bake for approximately 45 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  9. Let rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
