- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine sugar, flour, corn meal, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt.
- Add the beaten egg and milk to the dry ingredients and mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
- Pour the batter into greased or lined muffin tins, filling each cup about 2/3 full.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving.
