Ingredients

  • 1 2/3 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons soda
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 2/3 cup cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Grease and flour 2 round pans or 1 oblong pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine all ingredients.
  3. Beat on low speed for 30 minutes, scraping sides and bottom of the bowl.
  4. Beat for 3 minutes on medium speed, scraping the bowl frequently.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pans.
  6. Bake at 350°F until done.
