Candied Orange Slice Cake

Instructions
- Add all flour to chopped dates, orange slices, nuts, and coconut. Let stand in a large bowl.
- Cream shortening; add sugar and eggs, one at a time.
- Stir soda into buttermilk, then add to the sugar, egg, and shortening mixture.
- Add this mixture to the nuts, date, candied orange slices, and flour mixture.
- Stir with a spoon until well mixed.
- Pack into a greased 10-inch or larger tube pan lined with wax paper.
- Bake at 250°F (120°C) for 2 1/2 to 3 hours.
- Remove from oven while still hot, and while it is still hot, add glaze made of one cup orange juice stirred into two cups powdered sugar.
- Let stand in the pan overnight.
