Ingredients

  • 4 c. Cheerios
  • 1 1/2 c. salted peanuts
  • 1 1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
  • 3/4 c. light molasses
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1 Tbsp. plus 1 tsp. vinegar
  • 1/8 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda

Instructions

  1. Measure Cheerios and peanuts into a large greased bowl.
  2. Mix brown sugar, molasses, water, vinegar, and cream of tartar in a saucepan.
  3. Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture reaches the hard ball stage (250°F).
  4. Remove from heat.
  5. Stir in the baking soda; the mixture will become fluffy and porous.
