Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 teaspoons vanilla
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 3 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 5 teaspoons baking powder
  • well drained cherries
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 1/4 cups brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Mix cherries, melted butter, and brown sugar in a bowl.
  2. Pour the cherry mixture into the bottom of a 9 x 13-inch cake pan.
  3. Prepare the cake batter by mixing sugar, eggs, vanilla, shortening, flour, milk, and baking powder.
  4. Pour the cake batter over the cherry mixture in the pan.
  5. Bake at 350°F until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cake to cool slightly before inverting onto a serving plate.
