Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 cup salted peanuts, chopped
  • 12 ounces chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Blend shortening, egg, peanut butter, and water until smooth.
  2. Sift together dry ingredients: sugar, flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and soda, then add to the mixture.
  3. Stir in 1 cup of chocolate chips and chopped salted peanuts.
  4. Pour the batter into a greased 9 x 13-inch pan and bake at 375°F for 20 minutes.
  5. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle remaining chocolate chips evenly over the top.
  6. Place a baking sheet over the pan to hold in heat and soften the chips.
  7. Spread the melted chocolate evenly with a spatula and sprinkle with additional chopped salted peanuts.
