Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup soft butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease the bottom of a loaf pan.
  3. Combine sugar and softened butter in a mixing bowl.
  4. Beat thoroughly until smooth and creamy.
  5. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  6. Stir in buttermilk.
  7. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  8. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring just until moist and combined.
  9. Fold in chopped nuts.
  10. Pour batter into the greased loaf pan.
  11. Bake for 50 to 55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  12. Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 15 minutes.
  13. Remove from pan and cool completely before slicing.
