Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2/3 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Cream the sugar and shortening and set aside.
  2. Cook the cocoa and buttermilk mixture and let it cool.
  3. Add the cooled cocoa mixture to the creamed sugar and shortening.
  4. Mix well until combined.
  5. Add eggs and mix thoroughly.
  6. Pour the batter into two 9-inch cake pans.
  7. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20 to 25 minutes.
