Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup quick-cooking or old fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 3/4 cup chopped walnuts
  • confectioners sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa
  • 1/2 cup margarine softened
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 12 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Stir together flour, salt, baking soda, and cocoa; set aside.
  2. Put oatmeal in a bowl, stir in boiling water, and let stand about 10 minutes.
  3. Stir in margarine and both sugars.
  4. Add eggs and mix well.
  5. Beat in the flour mixture and mix thoroughly.
  6. Fold in half of the chocolate chips and spread in a greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan.
  7. Sprinkle remaining chocolate chips and chopped walnuts on top.
  8. Bake in a preheated 350°F oven for about 45 minutes.
  9. Cool in the pan and sprinkle with confectioners sugar before serving.
