Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons soda
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa
  • 2 cups applesauce
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped pecans

Instructions

  2. Stir together flour, salt, soda, and cocoa.
  3. Add the flour mixture alternating with the applesauce to the creamed mixture.
  4. Pour the batter into a greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan.

  6. Bake for 35 minutes in a 350°F oven.
