Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. soda, dissolved in 1/4 c. hot water
  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 1/2 c. cocoa
  • dash of salt
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Instructions

  1. Use a glass 9 x 12-inch loaf pan.
  2. Cream sugar, shortening and eggs.
  3. Add flour and cocoa mixture and milk alternately.
  4. Add salt and vanilla.
  5. Mix soda in hot water and blend well.
  6. Add boiling water and mix well.
  7. Mixture will be thin.
  8. Bake at 325° for 35 to 40 minutes.
