Instructions
- Cream sugar and margarine or butter until fluffy.
- Add 3 egg yolks and the dissolved yeast in warm water.
- Sift flour, soda, and salt three times.
- Beat egg whites until stiff and set aside.
- Alternately add flour mixture, milk, and vanilla to the creamed mixture.
- Add raisins or nuts.
- Fold in the beaten egg whites.
- Cover with cloth or plastic wrap and let stand for 6 hours or overnight.
- Bake in a tube pan at 350°F (175°C) for 30 to 35 minutes.
- Can be frosted or dusted with powdered sugar.
