Ingredients

  • 1 cup margarine or butter
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 3/4 cups flour
  • 3 oz melted chocolate
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cake or package yeast
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 cup raisins

Instructions

  1. Cream sugar and margarine or butter until fluffy.
  2. Add 3 egg yolks and the dissolved yeast in warm water.
  3. Sift flour, soda, and salt three times.
  4. Beat egg whites until stiff and set aside.
  5. Alternately add flour mixture, milk, and vanilla to the creamed mixture.
  6. Add raisins or nuts.
  7. Fold in the beaten egg whites.
  8. Cover with cloth or plastic wrap and let stand for 6 hours or overnight.
  9. Bake in a tube pan at 350°F (175°C) for 30 to 35 minutes.
  10. Can be frosted or dusted with powdered sugar.
