Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup nuts, chopped
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 cup blackberry jam
  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 9 tablespoons buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons sorghum
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/4 c. sugar

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, mix all ingredients thoroughly.
  2. Cook the mixture until it forms a soft ball in cold water.
  3. Continue cooking until the mixture turns a caramel color.
  4. Allow to cool slightly, then ice the Christmas cake with the prepared caramel mixture.
