A hearty casserole combining tender ground chuck, noodles, mushrooms, water chestnuts, and savory sauces, topped with cheese and crispy Chinese noodles for a flavorful family meal.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb. fine noodles
  • 2 c. onions, chopped
  • 2 lb. ground chuck
  • 1 (4 oz.) can mushrooms
  • 1 can water chestnuts, sliced
  • 1 can cream of chicken soup
  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • 1/4 c. soy sauce
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 lb. grated cheese
  • 1 can Chinese noodles

Instructions

  1. Cook and drain the noodles.
  2. Brown the ground chuck and onions in a skillet.
  3. Combine the mushrooms, cream of chicken soup, milk, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl.
  4. Add the mushroom mixture to the browned meat and onions, then add the sliced water chestnuts and mix well.
  5. Butter a 3-quart casserole dish.
  6. Spread the cooked noodles in the casserole dish and pour the meat mixture over the noodles.
  7. Top with grated cheese.
  8. Bake at 350°F until the cheese bubbles, about 20-25 minutes.
  9. Remove from the oven and top with Chinese noodles.
  10. Return to the oven for an additional 10 minutes before serving.
