Tips & Substitutions

For an extra flavor boost, consider adding herbs like thyme or rosemary to the chicken mixture. You can substitute the mayonnaise with Greek yogurt for a lighter version. If you prefer a crunchier topping, add crushed crackers or fried onions on top before baking. Feel free to experiment with different types of cheese based on your preference.

Serving Suggestions

This casserole is hearty on its own, but it pairs beautifully with a fresh side salad like Sunny Island Salad or steamed vegetables for a balanced meal. For a complete dinner, serve it alongside Isabel'S California Potatoes, which add a nice touch of flavor and texture.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place in a preheated oven at 325°F for 20-25 minutes until heated through. Alternatively, individual portions can be reheated in the microwave for about 2-3 minutes, depending on the wattage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use rotisserie chicken instead of cooked chicken?

Yes, using rotisserie chicken is a great time-saver and adds extra flavor. Just shred or chop the chicken before adding it to the mixture. You can also use leftover chicken from previous meals for a quick and easy preparation.

Can I make this casserole ahead of time?

Absolutely! You can prepare the casserole the night before and refrigerate it. Just cover it well to prevent drying out. When you're ready to bake, remove it from the fridge and let it sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes before cooking.

What type of cheese works best for topping?

Cheddar cheese is a popular choice due to its melty texture and rich flavor, but you can also use Monterey Jack or a blend of cheeses for added complexity. Experiment with different cheeses to find your favorite combination that complements the dish.
