Tips & Substitutions

For a flavor twist, consider adding diced bell peppers or jalapeños to the filling. If you're short on time, pre-cooked sausage can be a great substitute for fresh sausage. You can also use store-bought pizza dough instead of bread dough for a quicker option. Don't forget to let the stuffed bread rest before slicing to ensure clean cuts.

Serving Suggestions

Serve Colleen's Stuffed Bread warm, sliced into generous pieces. It pairs beautifully with a fresh green salad or a side of No Bake Baked Beans for a hearty meal. You can also offer a dipping sauce, such as marinara or ranch dressing, on the side for extra flavor. This dish is perfect for gatherings or as a comforting family dinner.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and wrap the bread in foil to keep it moist. Heat for about 15-20 minutes until warmed through. You can also slice and microwave individual pieces for a quick snack.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make the filling ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the filling a day in advance. Simply store it in the refrigerator after mixing and let it come to room temperature before spreading it on the dough. This can save you time on the day you plan to bake the bread.

What can I use instead of ground beef?

If you're looking for a substitution, ground turkey or chicken can work well in place of ground beef for a leaner option. You can also use a plant-based ground meat alternative if you prefer a vegetarian version, ensuring to adjust seasonings accordingly.

How do I know when the bread is done baking?

The bread is done when it is golden brown on top and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom. You can also insert a thermometer in the center; it should read at least 190°F (88°C) when fully cooked. Keep an eye on it as ovens can vary.
