Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups self-rising flour
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup red food coloring
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 2 large eggs

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Spray three 9-inch cake pans with non-stick spray or line with parchment paper.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine all ingredients except white vinegar and mix well.
  4. Leave the mixture until last, then add the white vinegar and mix thoroughly.
  5. Divide batter evenly among the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake for 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Remove cakes from oven and cool completely on wire racks.
  8. Frost the cooled cakes as desired and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.
