  • 1 tsp. black pepper
  • 1/4 c. chopped green peppers
  • 1/2 c. chopped onions
  • 1 tsp. garlic salt
  • 1/4 c. chopped celery
  • 3 Tbsp. catsup or tomato paste
  • 1 tsp. sugar

Instructions

  1. Mix ground beef, flour, salt, and black pepper thoroughly.
  2. Combine green peppers, onions, garlic salt, celery, and catsup (or tomato paste and sugar) in a separate bowl.
  3. Mix the vegetable mixture into the beef mixture with hands until well combined.
  4. Shape the mixture into submarine-shaped patties about the size of the palm of your hand.
  5. Place the patties on a cookie sheet and bake in a 375°F oven for 40 minutes or until done.

Tips & Substitutions

For a richer flavor, consider adding Worcestershire sauce or a dash of hot sauce to the beef mixture. You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option. If you prefer a smoother texture, you can finely chop the vegetables or even blend them before mixing into the meat. Serve with a side of gravy for extra flavor.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the Country Salisbury Steak with creamy mashed potatoes or a side of steamed vegetables for a comforting meal. A fresh garden salad can add a nice crunch and balance to the dish. For a twist, try pairing with buttery rice or noodles. It also pairs beautifully with Patty Melts for a hearty dinner option.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftover Salisbury steaks in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place them in a baking dish with a splash of water or broth, cover with foil, and heat in a 350°F oven for about 15-20 minutes until warmed through. Alternatively, you can microwave them on medium power.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know when the patties are cooked through?

To ensure the patties are cooked properly, use a meat thermometer to check for an internal temperature of 160°F. The patties should be browned on the outside and no longer pink in the center. If you don’t have a thermometer, cut one open to check for doneness.
