Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 1/3 cups white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cups flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup currants
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg
  • a little milk
  • 1 stick butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven and prepare your cake pans.
  2. Cream 1/2 cup butter until soft, then add 1 1/3 cups sugar and beat until fluffy.
  3. Add 2 eggs and 1 teaspoon vanilla, mixing well.
  4. Gradually add 1 cup milk, mixing until smooth.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine 2 cups flour, 3 teaspoons baking powder, and 1 teaspoon salt.
  6. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  7. Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for approximately 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cake to cool slightly before removing from pans.
  9. Prepare the frosting by creaming 1 stick butter until fluffy.
  10. Beat in powdered sugar until smooth.
  11. Add chopped nuts if desired.
  12. Spread the frosting on the hot cake to melt into it.
  13. In a separate bowl, beat 1 egg and 1/2 cup sugar until well combined.
  14. Stir in 1/2 cup currants and a little milk to make a filling or topping.
  15. Spread the nut frosting over the cake while it is still hot.
