Tips & Substitutions

For a richer flavor, consider adding garlic or a splash of vinegar to the sautéed vegetables. If you prefer a thicker sauce, gradually add more flour until you reach your desired consistency. You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option. For a vegetarian version, use lentils or mushrooms instead of beef. This sauce is versatile and can complement various beef recipes.

Serving Suggestions

Serve this sauce over cooked rice, mashed potatoes, or pasta for a hearty meal. It pairs beautifully with Clety'S Special for a complete dinner. For added freshness, top with chopped green onions or parsley. A side of steamed vegetables or a crisp salad would also complement this dish nicely.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, warm gently on the stovetop over low heat, adding a splash of water if it thickens too much. You can also microwave it in short intervals, stirring in between, until heated through.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this sauce ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the sauce a day in advance. Just follow the recipe, let it cool completely, and store it in the refrigerator. When ready to serve, reheat on the stovetop or in the microwave, adding a bit of water if needed to maintain the consistency.

What can I use instead of Kitchen Bouquet?

If you don't have Kitchen Bouquet, you can substitute with a mixture of soy sauce and a little bit of brown sugar for color and flavor. Alternatively, you could use a small amount of liquid smoke to achieve a similar depth of flavor.

Is there a gluten-free option for this recipe?

Yes, you can use a gluten-free flour blend instead of regular flour to thicken the sauce. Additionally, ensure that the soy sauce is gluten-free, or you can use tamari as a substitute. These adjustments will keep the flavor intact while accommodating gluten sensitivities.
