Ingredients

  • 1 cup dates, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup flour
  • dash of salt
  • 1 cup chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Mix soda with the chopped dates.
  2. Pour boiling water over the dates and stir. Let it set while preparing the rest of the ingredients.
  3. Cream together the butter, sugar, and egg.
  4. Add the creamed mixture to the dates.
  5. Sprinkle a tablespoon of flour over the chopped nuts.
  6. Stir and mix the nuts into the date mixture.
  7. The batter will be thin.
  8. Pour the batter into an 8 x 8 inch pan.
  9. Bake at 350°F for 35 to 40 minutes.
