Ingredients

  • 3/4 lb pitted dates
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 3/4 cups sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 3/4 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup nuts

Instructions

  1. Pour hot water over the pitted dates and let sit.
  2. Add butter to the dates and water mixture.
  3. Mix in sugar and beaten egg.
  4. Add flour, baking soda, baking powder, vanilla, and nuts; mix well.
  5. Pour the batter into a greased and floured oblong pan.
  6. Bake at 325°F for 25 minutes.
  7. Allow to cool, then cut into bars and roll in powdered sugar.
