Tips & Substitutions

For a heartier version of Deanna's Goulash, consider using russet potatoes for their texture. If you're short on time, pre-cooked or frozen potatoes can be used as a quick substitute. If you prefer a different protein, ground turkey or chicken can easily replace the hamburger meat. For added flavor, try incorporating some smoked paprika or Italian seasoning.

Serving Suggestions

Deanna's Goulash is delicious on its own, but it pairs beautifully with a side salad or crusty bread for a complete meal. For a comforting touch, serve it with a dollop of sour cream or some fresh herbs on top. Consider serving alongside Monty'S Ham Salad for a delightful contrast of flavors.

Storage & Reheating

Leftover goulash can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to four days. To reheat, simply place it in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally until warmed through. You can also microwave individual portions in a bowl, adding a splash of milk if the mixture thickens too much during storage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use other types of cheese in this recipe?

Absolutely! While cheddar cheese adds a great flavor, you can use Monterey Jack, mozzarella, or even a spicy pepper jack for a kick. Just make sure the cheese melts well to maintain the creamy texture of the goulash.

Is it possible to make this dish vegetarian?

Yes, you can easily convert this recipe to a vegetarian option by substituting the hamburger meat with plant-based ground meat or lentils. Additionally, use vegetable broth instead of the cream of mushroom soup for a fully vegetarian goulash.

What can I do if my goulash turns out too thick?

If your goulash is too thick, simply add a bit of water, broth, or additional evaporated milk to reach your desired consistency. Stir it in gradually while heating, allowing it to blend smoothly without compromising the dish's flavor.
