Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 whole egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/4 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. double-acting baking powder
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 c. brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Make a meringue by beating 1 egg white until foamy.
  2. Gradually beat in 1 cup brown sugar.
  3. Beat until stiff and glossy.
  4. Fold in chopped nuts.
  5. Spread meringue over dough.
  6. Bake 25 minutes at 375°.
  7. Cut while warm.
  8. Makes 24 (2-inches).
