Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups water
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 cup seedless raisins
  • 1 cup cut-up dates
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon Sucaryl or other liquid sweetener
  • 2 tablespoons water

Instructions

  1. Boil water, shortening, raisins, dates, nutmeg, and cinnamon for 3 minutes.
  2. Let the mixture cool.
  3. Beat in the eggs.
  4. Dissolve salt, soda, and sweetener in 2 tablespoons of water.
  5. Add the egg mixture to the cooled fruit and spice mixture.
  6. Drop teaspoonfuls of the batter onto a cookie sheet.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 12 minutes or until done.
