Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1 package dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup soft shortening
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Measure into a bowl the warm water.
  2. Add and stir to dissolve the yeast.
  3. Stir in the sugar, salt, and half of the flour.
  4. Beat until mixture sheets off the spoon, about 2 minutes.
  5. Add the egg, remaining flour, and softened shortening, then beat until smooth.
  6. Drop the batter by spoonfuls over the topping.
  7. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25 to 30 minutes.
  9. Turn over immediately after baking.
