Ingredients

  • 2 lb. ground chuck
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 medium to large onion
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup oatmeal
  • salt
  • pepper

Instructions

  1. Combine ground chuck, ground beef, chopped onion, beaten eggs, oatmeal, salt, and pepper in a mixing bowl.
  2. Add crushed soda crackers gradually until the mixture is easy to handle and can be shaped into balls.
  3. Dust the meatballs lightly in flour.
  4. Brown the meatballs in 1 tablespoon of oil or Crisco until evenly browned.
  5. Drain off excess grease from the meatballs.
  6. Pour about 1/2 to 3/4 cup ketchup over the browned meatballs.
  7. Add enough water to cover the meatballs halfway.
  8. Cover the dish and simmer for about 45 minutes to 1 hour until cooked through.
