Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup blackberry jam
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 cup seedless raisins
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon cloves
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat egg yolks and eggs together, then add to the creamed mixture.
  4. Stir in blackberry jam.
  5. Sift together baking soda, flour, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, and allspice.
  6. Add the dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk to the wet mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients.
  7. Fold in seedless raisins.
  8. Pour batter into greased and floured cake pans lined with wax paper.
  9. Bake for approximately 1 hour or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
