Ingredients

  • 8 slices buttered bread
  • 2 cans crab meat drained
  • 2 cups chicken (optional alternative)
  • 2/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped celery
  • 1 small green pepper chopped
  • 3 cups milk
  • 4 beaten eggs
  • 1 can undiluted mushroom soup

Instructions

  1. Place half of the bread, broken into pieces, to cover the bottom of a 4-quart deep casserole.
  2. Mix crab meat, mayonnaise, chopped onion, chopped celery, chopped green pepper, and salt to taste.
  3. Spoon the crab mixture over the bread in the casserole.
  4. Top with the remaining bread slices.
  5. Mix eggs and milk together and pour over the casserole.
  6. Refrigerate for 12 hours.
  7. One and one-half hours before serving, bake in the oven for 15 minutes.
