Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup Wesson oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Cook the 1/2 cup cocoa and hot water until thick and cool.
  2. Sift the flour, sugar, salt, and baking soda together into a large mixing bowl.
  3. Mix the buttermilk, oil, and eggs in a small bowl.
  4. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients.
  5. Add the vanilla and cocoa mixture.
  6. Stir with a large whisk until well combined.
  7. Pour the batter into a 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan or two 8 x 8 x 2-inch pans.
  8. Bake at 325°F (160°C) for 40 minutes.
