Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup hot water
  • 2/3 cup raisins
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 2 2/3 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 cups pumpkin
  • 3 1/3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2/3 cup nut meats

Instructions

  1. Add the hot water to the raisins; let cool.
  2. Cream together the shortening, sugar, eggs, and pumpkin.
  3. Sift together the flour, cinnamon, soda, cloves, allspice, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Add nut meats to the sifted ingredients.
  5. Mix the creamed mixture with the dry ingredients including nut meats until well combined.
  6. Pour the batter into 2 greased loaf pans.
  7. Bake in a preheated 350°F oven for 1 hour or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
