- Stir butter into cocoa and hot water; allow to cool.
- Sift dry ingredients together and stir into cocoa mixture.
- Add eggs; beat in sour milk and then vanilla.
- Add chopped nut meats.
- Spread batter on a greased 16 x 11-inch jelly roll pan.
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for about 20 minutes.
- Allow to cool before topping with icing made of half cocoa and half powdered sugar with 2 tablespoons of softened butter.
