Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup shortening (Crisco)
  • 6 tablespoons buttermilk
  • 3/4 cup mashed bananas
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/8 cup flour (for nuts)
  • 2 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Cream shortening and gradually add sugar.
  2. Add eggs and mix well.
  3. Add buttermilk to which baking soda has been added, alternating with dry ingredients.
  4. Add mashed bananas and mix well.
  5. Dredge nuts with flour and add to the mixture.
  6. Pour batter into a prepared loaf pan.
  7. Bake at 350°F for 1 hour or until done.
