Ingredients

  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup cooking oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 1-1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups Plain Gold Medal Flour
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup drained, chopped fig preserves

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. Combine all liquids: buttermilk, cooking oil, and eggs.
  3. Sift dry ingredients together: flour, soda, salt, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and allspice.
  4. Add dry ingredients to the liquids and mix well.
  5. Stir in chopped pecans and chopped fig preserves until well blended.
  6. Pour batter into a lightly greased and floured tube pan.
  7. Bake for 1 hour or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before removing.
  9. Prepare the sauce for the cake as desired.
