Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup vinegar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon celery salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon mustard seed
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 5 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon red pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 6 large ripe tomatoes, peeled and quartered
  • 1 green pepper, sliced into rings
  • 1 onion, sliced into rings

Instructions

  1. Mix vinegar, celery salt, mustard seed, salt, sugar, red pepper, black pepper, and cold water in a saucepan.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil and boil hard for 1 minute.
  3. Pour the hot mixture over the peeled and quartered tomatoes, sliced green pepper, and sliced onion.
  4. Cover the mixture and place in the refrigerator to chill.
  5. Before serving, add sliced cucumber.
  6. Serve very cold as a salad on lettuce or as a relish.
