Florentine Layers
A hearty layered casserole featuring sausage, spinach, and cheese, with savory tomato sauce and tender noodles, perfect for comforting family dinners or entertaining guests.
Ingredients
- 1 lb. bulk sausage ⓘ
- 1 c. chopped onions ⓘ
- 2 cloves garlic, chopped ⓘ
- 32 oz. spaghetti sauce ⓘ
- 1 (4 oz.) can sliced mushrooms ⓘ
- 2 Tbsp. grated Parmesan cheese ⓘ
- 1 (10 oz.) pkg. chopped frozen spinach, drained well ⓘ
- 16 oz. Ricotta cheese ⓘ
- 1 egg, beaten ⓘ
- 1/4 c. grated Parmesan or Romano cheese ⓘ
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 1/2 tsp. seasoned salt ⓘ
- 1/2 (1 lb.) pkg. broad egg noodles ⓘ
- 2 c. shredded Mozzarella cheese ⓘ
Instructions
- Cook sausage, onions, and garlic in a skillet until the sausage is browned and no longer pink.
- Add spaghetti sauce and sliced mushrooms; simmer for 30 minutes.
- Combine chopped frozen spinach, Ricotta cheese, beaten egg, grated Parmesan or Romano cheese, pepper, and seasoned salt in a bowl.
- Layer cooked broad egg noodles, sausage sauce mixture, and spinach mixture in a baking dish, repeating layers as desired.
- Top with shredded Mozzarella cheese.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) until cheese is bubbly and golden, about 20 minutes.
