Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup Parmesan cheese
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 pound butter or margarine
  • 3/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/3 cup chopped basil

Instructions

  1. Hold aside 2 tablespoons of Parmesan cheese.
  2. Blend remaining dry ingredients together: flour, baking powder, baking soda, and Parmesan cheese.
  3. Hold aside 1 tablespoon of butter.
  4. Cut remaining 7 tablespoons of butter into the dry mixture to form coarse crumbs.
  5. Stir in chopped basil.
  6. Add plain yogurt gradually, until dough clings together in lumps.
  7. Form a ball with your hands; knead on a board until dough holds together.
  8. Roll dough into a log form; slice to make 7 equal pieces.
  9. Place one piece of dough in the center of a buttered 8-inch round cake pan.
  10. Surround the center piece with remaining pieces evenly.
  11. Brush with reserved butter; sprinkle with reserved Parmesan cheese.
  12. Bake at 400° until golden brown.
