Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 package dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cooking oil
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • Oil for deep frying
  • Sugar glaze

Instructions

  1. Combine 1 1/2 cups of flour, the yeast, and nutmeg in a bowl.
  2. Combine milk, sugar, oil, and salt; heat until warm.
  3. Add the warm milk mixture and the egg to the dry ingredients.
  4. Beat at low speed of electric mixer for 1/2 minute. Beat 3 minutes at high speed.
  5. By hand, stir in the remaining flour to make a soft dough.
  6. Place dough in a greased bowl and turn once. Cover and chill.
  7. Place dough on a lightly floured surface, cover, and let rest for 10 minutes.
  8. Roll dough into an 18 x 12-inch rectangle. Cut into donut shapes.
  9. Cover again and let rise for 30 minutes.
  10. Fry in deep hot (375°F) oil until golden, turning once.
  11. Drain and dip into sugar glaze.
