Ingredients

  • 2 sq. unsweetened chocolate
  • 1 c. powdered sugar
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • dash of salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • walnut halves
  • 1/2 c. cornmeal
  • 1/4 c. flour
  • 1/4 c. molasses
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. ginger
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 4 c. milk, scalded
  • 1 egg, well beaten
  • 1 peck peaches, skinned
  • sugar (1/2 weight of peaches)
  • 1 qt. brandy

Instructions

  1. Cream butter well with powdered sugar, beating in eggs two at a time.
  2. Add flour and flavoring (vanilla or spices).
  3. Pour the batter into a tube pan.
  4. Bake in a preheated oven at 300°F (150°C) for 1 1/2 hours.
  5. Can be served plain or with fruit topping, such as peaches and brandy.
