  3. Add salt, cinnamon, and melted cocoa.
  4. Add well beaten egg.
  5. Dissolve soda in milk and add to the mixture.
  6. Stir in about 2 to 2 1/2 cups flour.

Tips & Substitutions

For a richer flavor, consider using dark cocoa instead of regular cocoa. If you don’t have lard, substitute with an equal amount of shortening or additional butter. To prevent sticking while rolling out the dough, lightly dust your work surface with cocoa powder instead of flour. This will enhance the chocolate flavor without adding too much extra flour.

Serving Suggestions

These Giant Oreos are perfect for parties or as a fun dessert after a meal. Serve them alongside a glass of cold milk for a classic pairing, or try them with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an indulgent treat. They also pair nicely with a fruit salad like Good-N-Easy Salad for a balanced dessert spread.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftover Giant Oreos in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week. If you want to keep them fresh for longer, you can refrigerate them, but allow them to come to room temperature before serving to enjoy their full flavor. For best results, consume within a few days for optimal softness.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make these cookies ahead of time?

Absolutely! You can prepare the dough in advance and refrigerate it for up to 3 days before baking. Just make sure to wrap it tightly in plastic wrap. If you want to freeze the dough, shape it into discs, wrap, and store in an airtight container for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator before rolling and baking.

What can I use for frosting if I don’t want buttercream?

If you prefer a lighter option, consider using whipped cream or cream cheese frosting instead of traditional buttercream. You can also experiment with flavored frostings, such as mint or peanut butter, to give your Giant Oreos a unique twist. Just ensure the frosting is thick enough to hold the cookies together.

Can I make these gluten-free?

Yes, you can make gluten-free Giant Oreos by substituting the all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend. Make sure to use a blend that contains xanthan gum for the best texture. Additionally, check that your cocoa powder and any other ingredients are gluten-free to ensure the cookies meet dietary needs.
