Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup ground dates
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon soft butter
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 egg
  • dash salt
  • 8 ounces pineapple chunks, well drained
  • 1/2 jar maraschino cherries

Instructions

  1. Mix ground dates, chopped nuts, soda, and boiling water. Set aside to cool.
  2. Cream together sugar, egg, and soft butter.
  3. Stir in flour and salt.
  4. Combine the date mixture with the creamed mixture.
  5. Fold in well drained pineapple chunks and maraschino cherries.
  6. Pour batter into a greased bread pan.
  7. Bake at 325°F for 1 1/4 hours.
