Ingredients

  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 4 potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 1 cup frozen lima beans
  • 2 stalks celery, chopped
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas
  • 4 small pods okra, whole
  • 3 dashes seasoned pepper
  • 1 pint tomato juice
  • 2-3 pounds stew meat
  • self-rising flour
  • bacon grease or peanut oil

Instructions

  1. Dip the stew meat in self-rising flour to coat.
  2. Brown the floured beef in bacon grease or peanut oil until browned on all sides.
  3. Boil the floured beef in water for about 1 hour until tender.
  4. Add chopped onion, potatoes, chopped celery, and tomato juice to the pot.
  5. Continue boiling until the vegetables are tender.
  6. Add frozen peas and whole okra pods, then simmer for an additional 7-10 minutes.
