Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 5 tablespoons sifted flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion salt
  • 2 1/2 cups milk or light cream
  • 1 1/3 cups Minute rice
  • 1 1/2 cups turkey or chicken broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup grated American cheese

Instructions

  1. Combine the melted butter, sifted flour, salt, and onion salt in a saucepan and cook over hot water, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
  2. Pour Minute rice into a 2-quart shallow baking dish.
  3. Combine turkey or chicken broth and salt.
  4. Pour the broth mixture over the rice.
  5. Sprinkle half of the grated American cheese over the rice.
  6. Top with asparagus, then turkey.
  7. Cover with the prepared sauce.
  8. Sprinkle with the remaining cheese.
  9. Bake at 375°F for about 20 minutes.
  10. Top with almonds, if desired.
