Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp ginger
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1 tsp baking soda

Instructions

  1. Put eggs, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, salt, and brown sugar together and beat.
  2. Add shortening and mix well.
  3. Add molasses and mix thoroughly.
  4. Add flour along with soda and boiling water, mixing until smooth.
  5. Spread the batter on a greased cookie sheet.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 12 to 15 minutes.
  7. Allow to cool and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
